Although Karen grew up in Wisconsin, she has spent most of her adult life in Western Michigan. She began her career at a United Way Hearing and Speech Center and the Muskegon Public Schools as an educational audiologist. After her boys were born, she worked closer to home in conjunction with Ear Nose and Throat Physicians. She has been in private practice for 25 years and now owns Van Doorne Hearing Care with her son Craig.
She received her doctorate in audiology in 2003 from the Arizona School of Health Sciences, a division of A.T. Still University in Mesa, AZ. She earned her Bachelors of Science degree at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and her Masters Degree from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI.
As an expert in her field, she has spoken extensively on hearing healthcare, hearing technology and treatment of hearing disorders. Dr. Karen also provides audiological consultation to many doctors in the area.
Karen is licensed by the state of Michigan and is Board Certified by American Academy of Audiology and has received the honor of Academic Scholar through the American Board of Audiology. She is a member of American Academy of Audiology, Academy of Doctors of Audiology, American Tinnitus Association, Educational Audiology Association, Academy of Rehabilitative Audiology and American Auditory Society.
Through those memberships, Karen maintains the highest level of knowledge, education, and understanding of hearing loss, emerging hearing aid technologies and follows a best practice model for providing hearing care to her clients.
